Announcement Press Conference of DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang @ 32 Mansion, Georgetown, Penang
KayaButter’s favourite hotel is here in Penang! Malaysia’s 1st ever DoubleTree Resort by Hilton is in Penang! KayaButter is excited to hear that many big brands are coming into Penang. This will help to attract even more tourists who are fans of DoubleTree by Hilton to Penang and indirectly help to boost the tourism industry. If you haven’t heard of DoubleTree by Hilton which is famous for its chocolate cookies, do check out our blogpost about DoubleTree by Hilton in Johor Bahru here and its fabulous Makan Kitchen here.
This is a collaboration between Pinnacle Nexus Sdn Bhd, a member of Cornerstone Partners and Hilton Worldwide. DoubleTree Resort by Hilton in Penang is expected to complete by end of 2015. The grand opening of the resort will be in early 2016. The gross cost of developing DoubleTree Resort by Hilton is RM230 million. CornerStone has taken over the previous hotel, Hydro Hotel and converted the hotel into DoubleTree Resort by Hilton.
DoubleTree Resort by Hilton consists of 318 rooms. Mostly of the rooms have sea-views. It features dual key rooms with a common foyer that is perfect for big families, kid’s zone and water-park that are ideal for family get-aways, sand lounge with artificial beach, beach front access that requires you to walk through a pedestrian bridge, function rooms and meeting spaces, all-day dining as well as spa for the business travellers. Another big attraction that comes with DoubleTree Resort by Hilton and one that we are always been asked in our Facebook page (do like, if you find us interesting or wish to follow-up with the Penang scene) is the TeddyVille. TeddyVille is a 9000-sq-ft museum which is located at the ground floor of the resort. TeddyVille will be Malaysia’s 1st teddy bear themed museum and gallery and will tell our Malaysia’s rich history through the cute teddy bears. The TeddyVille is expected to have soft opening in end of 2015, hopefully before the end year school holiday. The entrance fees are RM27 for adult and RM15 for children. The press conference is done in Mansion 32, a luxurious fine-dining restaurant which KayaButter have fond memories of. Medias queuing up to get the goodies bag and media kit. They gave us one tin of the yummy and iconic DoubleTree cookies. How awesome!

YAB Lim Guan Eng arrives on time for the press conference. Many other medias especially outstation medias are quite impressed with his punctuality compared to other VIPs who usually keep the media waiting for a long while. Kudos to YAB Lim Guan Eng for setting a good example.
The press conference started with a speech by the CEO of Cornerstone Partners Sdn Bhd, Mr Jason Chong. He is also a Penangnite! 🙂
Next is the speech by Guy Phillips, Vice President of Development Asia, Hilton Worldwide. There are 3 DoubleTree by Hiltons in Malaysia, one in Kuala Lumpur, another in Johor Bahru and the latest one will be in Penang.
The Director of Teddy Ville Capital Sdn Bhd, Mr Tony Ch’ng is giving a speech. He is a young yet capable guy and well-versed in managing museums as said by YAB Lim Guan Eng.
Next up is our Chief Minister, YAB Lim Guan Eng giving his speech. He told us that Penang International Airport recorded a 10% growth in passenger growth, from 5.48 millions in 2013 to 6.03 million. He also added that we are going to reach our airport’s maximum capacity which is 6.5 million soon. Expansion project is underway and more information will be coming soon. YAB also mentioned that the state government is offering airlines US$10 per passenger for successful direct flights from Bandung, Yangon and Seoul for a period of time.
