SuperDry 極度乾燥(しなさい) Is In Penang Now!!!
SUPERDRY 極度乾燥(しなさい) IS FINALLY IN PENANG!!!
They celebrate their opening in style at Hin Bus Depot Art Centre that is the current ‘in’ venue for arts and cultural exhibitions. KayaButter were invited to their launching event as VIPs. Before KayaButter start to share photos that we took that day and photos from their official photographer, let’s take some time to understand SuperDry 極度乾燥(しなさい) brand name. We promise you that it will not bore you.
We believe that many people, well except fashionistas, will mistakenly believe that SuperDry is another famous Japanese label based on the SuperDry logo that has 極度乾燥(しなさい) or other Japanese characters in it. The truth is that SuperDry is a brand from UK that is founded in 2003 and owned by their parent company, SuperGroup. It has no connection with anything Japanese except the wordings. It seems that adding that something Japanese into the logo appeals to a lot of people around the globe. It seems that Eastern is the ‘in’ thing now with the Korean waves. Asian artists used to put in English words into their lyrics to make their songs more attractive. Now it seems to be the other way round. And the best thing is that the Japanese words ‘極度乾燥(しなさい)’ are not grammatically correct yet they are so famous now. 極度乾燥(しなさい) reads kyokudo kanso (shinasai) and literally means Maximum Dryness (Please Do). It sparked online discussions about the label. It seems to be a bad example of direct translation using some software or online tools. 🙂 It is gibberish or should we say successfully gibberish that even David Beckham and Kate Winslet are wearing the label?
Alright, enough of the discussion of the label. Let’s dive into the event itself! 🙂
Registration is a breeze as we reached early. We love that the organiser gives us a wristband that can identifies us and also can be used later as an accessory. Good job done there!
People are warming up with lots of good and electrifying songs before the start of the event.
Patrons can purchase Asahi Beer, Pepsi or Mineral Water.
They even bring in Mugshot’s capsule-style stall. You can enjoy their burgers and other stuffs. 🙂
We are given a special designated area for VIPs.
We get to enjoy free flow of Asahi beers, Pepsi & mineral water. Love the perks of being VIP! 🙂
Everyone is chilling around and chit-chatting. The mood is great! -) Then, something unexpected happened. 🙁
It rained cats and dogs. Huhu… 🙁 That really spoils the mood temporarily. Luckily we brought our umbrellas just in case. We pitied other VIP guests as they don’t have umbrellas. It would be very nice that the organisers do prepare umbrellas and move us to the main stage without us getting wet especially we are VIPs, right? Now, from SuperDry we are now SuperWet. Talking about the irony. Hehe 🙂
Anyhow, after everyone get sheltered, the party mood picks up again. The party-goers definitely will not let the rain spoils the atmosphere. Also, the organisers did one thing very right to salvage the event. Free flow of Asahi for everyone! That really brings the mood to the next level. The crowd is entertained by three DJ who are DJ Xu @ Lapsap, Alex Asquared @ Deer Society and Ramsey Westwood.
Everybody is shuffling! 🙂
And the rain never stops. We left early because of that. We missed Superdry Autumn Winter 2014 and Spring Summer 2015 collections runway showcase. Check out this FB link of Superdry Malaysia FB page for the photos of the hot and handsome looking models. Too bad that we missed them.
Oh ya, it seems that instant photo printing at events is catching up. It is so nice of SuperDry to let us have the hardcopy of our photo on the spot. You just need to upload a photo in your Instagram with the hashtag #SuperDryMY. It will show up at the machine and you can print out your photo. If you take photos in group, they let you print multiple copies so that everyone in the photo will have it. So nice!!!
Thanks Superdry Malaysia & Nazeen Koonda for the invite & the awesome event. We wish that we have the wizardry ability to summon the rain away to make it more awesome. One day maybe after Kaya enrolls himself in Hogwarts! Hehe 🙂
It is also so nice to have another international brand in Penang shopping scene. Way to go Penang! Now Penangites no need to go down to KL for SuperDry! Hooray! Now, after reading so much already, go to Gurney Plaza new wing ground floor. SuperDry store is just besides The Body Shop.
