Father's Day Set Lunch Menu 2014 @ Zest Bar Cafe, Glow Penang Hotel (1)

As Father’s Day is around the corner, many eateries, restaurants and hotels are preparing their menus for this special day. If you planning for your Father’s Day, you can take look at Glow Penang’s Zest Bar Cafe’s Father’s Day Set Lunch Menu. Glow Penang Hotel is one of the latest modern & chic hotel that is friendly to your wallet. It is under the brand of Zinc | InVision Hospitality which has hotels throughout Asia, originating from Bangkok, Thailand. Glow Penang is the the 1st Glow by Zinc hotel in Malaysia! Thank you for investing in Penang! πŸ™‚

Glow Penang Hotel is located in Georgetown or specifically Macalister Road. It is just opposite Red Rock Hotel. Finding carpark is rather troublesome as the hotel provides only around 20++ carpark, around 10 carparks in front of the hotel and another 10 more carparks behind the hotel. You need to go to Naning Street to get into the behind carpark which is just opposite to Syarikat Sum Sun Motor shop. You need to turn into a small lane to get to the carpark. Nevertheless, you can try to park around the hotel which is legal and you need to use the parking coupons.

This is the main entrance of Glow Penang Hotel. It really makes you feel that you are entering into a very modern, chic and futuristic hotel. Its style has the resemblance of the lobby of G Hotel. The first impression of Glow Hotel is a success!

Zest Bar Cafe is Glow Penang Hotel’s cafe. It is located at the 1st floor of the hotel. You can either walk up the stairs at the end right of the hotel or you can take lift. This is the view you can see from the 1st floor.

Upon reaching 1st floor, you will see their swimming pool. As far as Kaya can remember, previously Glow Penang Hotel is also a hotel but without swimming pool. That’s definitely a creative way of space usage and definitely a crowd puller. Many guests will love to take dip or a swim especially weather is too hot. The swimming pool is a bit small though and will definitely not be able to accommodate many patrons especially peak periods.

All right, after so much talk about Glow Penang Hotel, let’s focus on the main event that Kaya is writing, the Father’s Day Set Lunch Menu. It consists of a starter, a main course, a dessert and a selection of iced lemon tea, coffee or tea. The price is RM35 nett per pax. Here’s what you will get for the RM35 nett set lunch menu:

STARTER

Grilled Prawn with Caviar Cream and Salad Roll

MAIN COURSE

Yin & Yang Tenderloin
Grilled beef tenderloin with black and white sauce

or

White Pan-Fried Fillet Seabass
Grilled Seabass with Bechamel SauceΒ

DESSERT

Avocado Chocolate Trifle

DRINK

Coffee (Black Coffee, Cappuccino & Latte), Tea or Iced Lemon Tea (FREE REFILL)

Quite a good deal, right? Considering the fact that you are dining in a hotel. πŸ™‚ Let’s check it out whether the good deal is really worth it or not. πŸ™‚

Grilled Prawn with Caviar Cream and Salad Roll

The starter’s presentation is definitely very inviting. It comes with two prawns with caviar cream, mango slice and salad roll dressed with Thai sweet chili sauce and mango sauce with black sesame seeds. Kaya can’t help myself wanting to eat it after it is served. Outcome? The prawns are fresh and best taken together with the mango slice and the sauces. My only complain will be that the portion is too small! πŸ˜›

White Pan-Fried Fillet Seabass

Kaya chooses White Pan-Fried Fillet Seabass because Kaya is rather ‘heaty’ (a term coined by us that means that our body is rather hot internally after taking a lot of fried food and lack of sleep) due to my exam.Β You will get two pieces of fillet seabass and the portion is rather big. The fish is decent and best taken with the Thai sweet chili sauce for the extra kick in flavor. The potato wedges are also the highlight of the review. They are nice to chew, not too hard or too soft.

Yin & Yang Tenderloin

Kaya did not order beef but based on the reviews of other bloggers who ordered the Yin & Yang Tenderloin, this dish is good especially with medium raw. The white sauce is made of coconut and cream but the taste of it is overpowered by the black sauce which is essentially black pepper sauce. According to one famous food blogger, Steven Goh, the black pepper sauce is a bit too strong that it overpowers the overall taste of this dish. Feedback has been given and changes will be made. Kaya managed to get a small piece of the medium cooked beef and it tastes good. The beef is not too chewy and gives a good feel and taste in the mouth. The verdict is that the beef is better than the fish according to the bloggers. So, beef lovers, do come over to try! πŸ™‚

Avocado Chocolate Trifle

Looks can be deceiving. This small glass of Avocado Chocolate Trifle will definitely fulfill your dessert craving. The 1st layer is chocolate and pistachios. The 2nd layer is avocado. The 3rd layer is chocolate. The last layer is cream. The combination of avocado and chocolate gives a sweet and creamy taste that is almost like ice-cream yet creamier. It gives a slightly sour after taste which is rather refreshing. The combination of avocado, chocolate and cream gives a rather too sweet taste and overpowers the avocado taste. So, pick your own preference. Some might not be able to finish all because you will feel ‘jelak‘, a Malay/Hokkien term that means you are satiated by the food to the point that you are repulsed by it. Any English expert that can tell me the termΒ jelak in English? Thank you in advanced! πŸ™‚

Black Coffee, Tea or Iced Lemon Tea

Latte, Cappuccino and Iced Lemon Tea

You get FREE FLOWΒ for the drink of your choice. Definitely a steal considering the price you pay for this set lunch! πŸ™‚ Kaya will definitely go for either Latte or Cappuccino! πŸ˜›

Kaya is also lucky to get to try their signature dishes which are Glow Signature Beef Burger and Glow Signature Chicken Club Sandwich. Other dishes ordered are subject to 6% government tax. There is no service charge given though. πŸ™‚

Glow Signature Beef Burger RM22+

There is a reason why this beef burger is their signature dish. The beef is well grilled and it is tender and not too chewy. The cheese taste is quite strong and enhances the overall taste of the burger. Do add the honey mustard for stronger flavor. πŸ™‚ Again, the potato wedges are good and best taken with the sauce. πŸ™‚ Personally, I prefer they put in this beef burger as a choice in their set lunch if possible! πŸ˜›

Glow Signature Chicken Club Sandwich RM18+

Kaya is a bit disappointed with their Glow Signature Chicken Club Sandwich. The sandwich is rather hard. The eggs are overcooked and the chicken slice is chewy.Β The person in-charge shares to us that the sandwich is fluffy, the chicken slices are tender and QQ and the eggs are excellent. Finally, we found that the main reason is because the dish is left in the cold for a while as the bloggers are busy with taking photos and eating our main course. That explains the problems we face. So, next time that you order this, remember to take it while it’s hot! πŸ™‚

All in all, for the price tag of RM35 nett per pax, this lunch menu set is definitely worth it. You get to enjoy modern and chic environment in a hotel with good food and free refill of drink. What else can you ask? OK, maybe a better parking place. πŸ˜› Β Their service is excellent and some of the waiters are handsome! πŸ˜›

Thank you Glow Penang Hotel staffs for having us for the food review and being open to our feedbacks and your excellent service. Looking forward for the next review with you all.
