Famous Sungai Dua Fish Meat Bee Hoon, Tom Yam & Bah Kut Teh Stall @ Sungai Dua, Penang!!!

Finally KayaButter has a chance to try the famous Sungai Dua Fish Meat Bee Hoon. It is because KayaButter’s new shop is located nearby this stall. If you are interested to see KayaButter’s new shop, go to www.kenkoya.org to understand what business we are doing. 🙂 KayaButter do not what to eat in Sungai Dua. One of Butter’s friend who stayed near this area introduced us to this stall. It is actually 3-in-1 stall whereby the owners sell Fish Meat Bee Hoon, Tom Yam Noodles and Claypot Bah Kut Teh in one stall. This is our 1st time encountering such a stall. Haha 🙂

It is actually located just opposite Tesco Extra, Sungai Dua. If you are coming from Subaidah Sungai Dua, turn right at the traffic light in front of Tesco Extra and quickly turn right into the service lane. You will definitely see the stall as the stall is operating on the corner house. You will see some people and tables and also one stall selling sugar cane juice. Look for parking along the road. KayaButter saw many working people came here for their dinner.

Here is the price list for their menu. Pork noodles, minimum RM4. Fish noodles, minimum RM5. Tom yam noodles, minimum RM6. Claypot bah kut teh, minimum RM8.50. You can add-on ingredient for your order. Just tell the stall operators what you want.

They have two kinds of drinks which is Sugar Cane Juice, RM1.50 and Nutmeg Juice RM1.50. Their sugar cane juice is quite nice. KayaButter personally feel that the hygiene level of the sugar cane juice stall is rather questionable and below par. So, for those who prefer higher hygiene level, you all need to skip this stall. If you are the type that can accept this for the sake of good food, then you are very welcome. Some might go with this slogan in Hokkien which is ‘La sam chiak, la sam tua’ Haha. This means that getting accustomed with the sub-par condition.

Fish Meat Noodles (Thick Rice Vermicelli) RM5

The portion of this fish meat bee hoon is rather big. The owners are quite generous with the ingredients (fish meat and fish balls). The soup is flavorful with the usage of ginger and pepper. Both of us like the soup. The rice vermicelli used is rather disappointing. It is quite hard and it breaks easily. It is hard to pick them up and affects our dining mood. Rice vermicelli is an important part of fish meat bee hoon. One of the reason KayaButter select this fish meat bee hoon in Air Itam as the best fish meat bee hoon in Penang is because of its Q-ness and smooth rice vermicelli. The fried fish meat is not crispy but the fish is fresh.

KayaButter’s verdict: Good but not among the best. The rice vermicelli used is excusable because most fish meat bee hoon stalls use the same type of rice vermicelli. Oh ya, the price is rather reasonable seeing the ingredients that they give us.

Next time, KayaButter would like to try their tom yam and also bak kut teh as we saw many people ordering those two dishes. 🙂 Stay tuned as KayaButter will update our finding here. 🙂

  1. I was very disappointed with the bak kut teh here. Could have sworn that the herbal soup is indistinguishable from normal clear soup… 🙂
