The Famous Kum Kee Special Economy Food @ Seng Huat Cafe, Perak Road, Penang
Yes, this whole week will all be about Perak Road famous food. This time, KayaButter wish to introduce one more famous stall in Perak Road which sell this ubiquitous food in Malaysia called economy rice or what the locals call it as kin chey pui or what our KL counterparts call it as chap fan.
KayaButter have been patronising this stall for a few years ever since been introduced by Kaya’s mother in-law. KayaButter always wanted to blog about this but it seems to be hard. Maybe, unconsciously, KayaButter do not wish to share this out, fearing that it will this place even more crowded. 😛 Just joking ya. KayaButter’s blog is still not that influential yet. Do like our Facebook page, so that you can get updated of Penang food and events. www.facebook.com/kayabuttertoast TQ
If you are coming from Jelutong into Perak Road, then Kum Kee Special Economy Food is just on your ride. It can be easily missed if you are not familiar with the place. It is just after a handphone shop and Vantage Point corner shops. If you see a bicycle signboard, then you should slow down and find carpark.
If you are coming for town into Perak Road, then Kum Kee Special Economy Food is just on your left. If you see I Mum Mum Pan Mee Shop on your right, then it is time to slow down and look for carpark.
By the way, carpark is very scarce and it is not easy to find carpark especially peak hours which is around 12pm-2pm. Using motorcycle will be of big advantage here.
After you have parked your car, proceed to walk in and get a plate of rice from the lady who stands next to the rice container.
There are around four islands of dishes for you to choose from. One thing that KayaButter love about this economy rice stall is that the variety of dishes that you can choose from. It has a variety of different sauces, different types of meats such as chicken, pork and fish, different types of seafood and eggs. It has quite a balance of dishes as compared to other economy stalls. 🙂
Butter’s meal of the day. RM3.50. Cheap? 🙂
They do offer porridge option. You can also get free soup from them also. The satay sauce pork is damn nice!
Kaya’s meal of the day. RM5.50
The black sauce chicken pieces with sesame is the dish that Kaya will always take. It makes eating easy as there are no bones and the sauce is on the sweet side. 🙂 The otak-otak is also very awesome.
Cham Peng RM1.50
This is one of Kaya’s favourite cham peng which means mixture of coffee and tea or what the Hongkies will call this as ying yong. 🙂 A very strong coffee taste with very sweet taste from the tea with milk. Awesome drink! It is a must try.
Will KayaButter return? Yes! What about you?
