So, KayaButter received invitation for the launching of a Fertimans Curiosity Cola by Exclusivitea Sdn Bhd. KayaButter never wrote anything about wine or anything related, never invited to food pairing with wine or a big fan of wine. So, we are very thankful to be invited to the launching and also to taste 1st hand their new product! Thank you again for the great explanation to us and being so hospitable, Katherine Khor and also Criz for the invite. 🙂 And the organizer picked a very relaxing place for the launch which is The Wine Shop. Here’s a brief about Exclusivetea Sdn Bhd:

The interior of The Wine Shop. The design looked a bit English to KayaButter. 🙂  There is actually another room beside this shop which houses all the wines. 🙂 Too bad we are on the rush and didn’t snap any photos.

You can order cuts of many types of cheese and many you can hardly find at your local stores or big hypermarkets. 🙂 You can enjoy your cheese platter with your choice of cold cuts of meats from their deli corner. Our launch is on the 2nd floor and we went up after snapping some photos.

As soon as we reached the 2nd floor, we went the reception area and quickly registered. We were given a door gift which consists of the highlight of the day which is a bottle of Curiosity Cola and a pack of premium tea. More on the door gifts later.

Fentimans Curiosity Cola

Here’s a little bit background about Fentimans:

About Fentimans

In 1905, Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Cleckheaton, England was approached by a fellow tradesman for a loan. A deal was struck and a recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer was provided as security. The loan was never repaid so Thomas became the owner of the unique recipe. Thomas began using the recipe and producing botanically brewed ginger beer which he delivered door-to-door using a horse and cart for transport.

The business is still in the Fentimans family. Owned by the Great Grandson of Thomas Fentiman, Fentimans sodas are still produced by botanically brewing with finest natural ingredients. The production processes have been updated through the addition of mild carbonation to replace the carbon dioxide lost during pasteurisation, which gives the product a longer life.

Crafted from five generations of family experience, Fentimans beverages are botanically brewed and contain all the flavour and goodness from the finest natural ingredients. This results in an invigorating and full-flavoured taste that sets Fentimans apart.

First sip of Fentimans Curiosity Cola gives us a rather weird taste since we are more accustomed to Coca-Cola and very strong taste too. After a few more sips and you will get a hang of it. It is lesser carbonated compared to our common colas. Butter feels that it has similar taste of Ribena. 😛 It is best mixed with hard liquor such as whiskey or bourbon. The selling point of Curiosity Cola is that it is botanically brewed sodas. The retail price is RM16 but it selling in Penang at RM14 per bottle.

The 2nd floor is rather long and narrow. It can house roughly 40++ people at one go not calculating the next door shop. The next door space is having a birthday party and KayaButter didn’t go and take photo.

As soon as we took our seats at the front of the floor, we were being served Calimocho,

Calimocho

(Psst… take a look at the cards on the table :-))

Here’s a brief about Calimocho:

Calimocho, or kalimotxo, is a very popular Spanish cocktail that is served in many bars and prepared by Spanish youth during traditional ‘botellon’ parties. Calimocho originated in the Basque region of Spain but has spread throughout the entire country and to many other parts of the world. The Calimocho served today will be with a twist, it will be served with our invigorating premium Curiosity Cola from Fentimans mixed with Autorita Merlot of Chile. Calimocho in Argentina is known as “Jesus Juice”, in South Africa it’s called “katemba”, in Croatia “bambus” and in Chile it’s known as “jote” (black vulture)

This cocktail of Spanish origin served was a composition of Autorita Merlot and Curiosity cola, in a 1:1 ratio. This cocktail should be consumed in large quantities in anywhere from a lax to off-the-walls social environment. The beauty of this drink is that, much like its sister Sangria, it’s refreshing. Fruity and fizzy, it definitely goes down like a cold punch on a hot day. Another key advantage is its taste: excellent.

First thing first, KayaButter are not actually an expert in wines or cocktails. So, we will give our direct feedback after drinking Calimocho. The drink is fruity but a bit dry. The Calimocho served comes mixed with ice so the taste is a bit diluted. Katherine explained that that’s the actual way of drinking Calimocho but Malaysian has a strong palate. So, you can order yours without rocks. Some of the bloggers feel that mixing the Curiosity Cola with white wine might have a better taste and not too dry. 🙂 So, you can experiment with the mixture and let us know your best combination, ya! 😉

Now you know why we ask you to look at the cards! Haha. Kaya’s flat ass cheeks! Ooops! 🙂 A very cheeky card indeed promoting Curiosity. A big WIN!

Vegetarian Pizzas

The Wine Shop is definitely famous for its pizzas. We were served a variety of pizzas. The pizza crust is thin and damn crunchy. A bite leads to another and within a minute, voila, that slice of pizza is gone. The cheese is very generously given and flavor is thick. 🙂 This bite has to be replaced quite often, as KayaButter observed. 🙂

Bacon Roll

Their finger food is damn good. After the awesome pizza, we tasted the sausage. The sausage is very juicy and tender. Very nice to chew and the sliced bacon adds a very good flavor to the sausage. The combination is heavenly and for a moment, you will forget about your calorie count and your fat belly! 🙂

Vegetarian Dips

Both are very crunchy and you will definitely enjoy eating them. A very refreshing break from all the meat and fried stuffs. A healthier choice. For the extra kick, you can add on the cheese.

Cheese Platter (Cheese Cuts with Grapes & Apricot)

Another great finger food. KayaButter prefer the grape combination for the extra sweetness from the grape. The apricot combination tastes good too but it is a bit more sourish. 🙂

Butter happy to receive the door gift which includes a bottle of Curiosity Cola and a premium tea which is Ronnefeldt teas. Each of us were given a different flavors. We received Jasmine Gold and Oriental Oolong! Thanks a lot to Katherine for being so generous! 🙂
