The Best of Penang Holiday Special Buffet by Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant & Skybar, Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang!
On the 24th November 2013, Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant & Skybar at Bayview Hotel made another hoo haa in the buffet scene in Penang by introducing their new buffet theme which is ‘The Best of Penang Holiday Special Buffet’ with a special focus on Nyonya cuisine.
Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant & Skybar has already made a name for itself by introducing a open-air rooftop bar to fellow Penangnites a few months ago. Guests can have a panoramic view of Georgetown’s heritage area, Penang Komtar, Penang Bridge, the sea, the ports and sometimes the cruises that are anchored at Port Swettenham. This skybar has been the must be place because it offers a unique clubbing experience with scenic view, great music and great atmosphere! Kaya will talk about the skybar in another post. Let’s start with ‘The Best of Penang Holiday Special Buffet’ first.
Once you have entered Bayview Hotel, you will see the receptionist area. Turn right to the end and turn again to get to the lifts that gives direct access to Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant & Skybar. Press ‘R’. Kaya reached there and used their guest lifts by going through a ‘More Lifts’ sign and goes up to 16th floor. After reaching 16th floor, you can choose to go up by staircase or use another life to go up to Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant & Skybar.
Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant is the only restaurant in Penang that offers revolving food dining experience whereby you can see the parts of Georgetown heritage by just sitting on your table. It takes 1 hour to turn a 360 degrees round which means the restaurant moves 6 degrees every minute. The restaurant only revolves from 8:30pm – 9:30pm to facilitate easier movements for guests. Kaya feels that this is a good move as not all guests will enjoy the restaurant moving all the time. Kaya personally feel the movement stronger when Kaya is moving around taking my food compared to sitting on the table. Another that Kaya notices is that you will tend to lose your direction to your table since the restaurant is moving. Kaya lost direction a few times during my walk to take the food. You will also be confused with the food whereabouts. All in all, it is still a very unique dining experience and offers breathtaking views when you are sitting down at your table and enjoying good food and good company.
Appetizers
Chicken Lor Bak with Sesame Chili Sauce
My all time favorite! One of the famous nyonya food. Very nice to take together with rice or as a finger food. Remember to eat it together with the sesame chili sauce or the sweet chili sauce for the extra kick & flavor. The skin of the lor bak is not so consistent and feedback has been given.
Crispy Chicken Wantan with Sweet Chili Dip
Very crisp but soft in the inside. Kaya can still remember the crackling sound while writing this. Needless to say, go get one. No, not one but lots more. Remember to eat together with the sweet chili dip. 🙂
Kerabu Chicken with Black Fungus (Spicy Chicken Salad with Ginger Bud)
Spicy Glass Noodle Salad with Minced Chicken and Lemongrass Dressing
This is one of the highlight of the buffet and received rave reviews among the food bloggers. The glass noodles is so Q and chewy. Not too soft or too hard. And the spices and lemongrass dressing make this dish very refreshing with its sourness and appetizing with its spiciness. A must try! Your appetite definitely will be very good after this and this will ensure that the RM75++ that you paid will be worthy!
Acar Awak (Vegetable Pickle)
This is also one of the favorite and famous nyonya food. A bit spicy and sour. 🙂
Nyonya Pie Tee (Top Hats)
This is a very interesting appetizer or sometimes as a finger food. First, you put the vegetable salad into the pie tee. Then, you put the dressing that you prefer. Then, obviously, put in your mouth and feel the crunchiness of the pie tee.
Rojak (Penang’s version of fruit salad)
Salad with Mesclun Leaves and Assorted Cruditess (Watercress, Grated Carrot, Cucumber, Tomato, Onion Ring)
It comes with three choices of dressing:
1. Wasabi Honey Dressing.
2. Spicy Lemongrass Vinaigrette.
3. Caesar Dressing.
Soup
Laksa Lemak
This is also the highlight of the buffet! This is exactly the same Laksa Lemak that Mansion 32 serves. Almost all the bloggers give the thumbs up. Kaya who is not really a fan of laksa lemak also gives this dish a thumbs up. The laksa gravy is not too ‘lemak’ and the ingredients mix up very well giving this laksa a very good taste. Some bloggers say that it is better without the prawn paste but Kaya find that it is fine. Do try both and give me your verdict. 🙂
Hot
Slow Braised Beef Ribs
6 Spice BBQ Chicken
This is also a must try for the buffet! The 6 spice really goes deep into the chicken meat. The chicken meat is also cooked until becomes very tender. When you bite and chew the chicken meat, it is so smooth. The whole experience is so nice. If you are not careful, you will just keep eating this until non stop.
Chicken & Mushroom Pie
This must be the biggest chicken pie that Kaya has ever seen! Haha! 🙂 The exterior of the pie is crispy and soft inside. It is a decent dish.
Panfried Seabass Fillet with Assam Pedas
It is quite spicy. For those who can’t take spicy food, do take smaller portion just for tasting. 🙂
Tomato Rice
Very well done. Not many hotels can cook this dish very tasty. It has the same great taste of famous road side mee goreng seller. Not to be missed.
Buttered Vegetables
Sweet (International)
Black Glutinous Rice Porridge with Longan & Coconut
Creme Caramel
Tiramisu
Not too sweet and just nice. This is a great dessert to end your revolving dining experience. A decent tiramisu.
This is a nyonya dessert. Do take it together with the gula melaka! A good and tasty experience.
They do serve assorted fruits, black coffee, cappuccino, black tea, nyonya kuihs and ice creams.
Chef Azali
This is the man behind all the food of The Best of Penang Holiday Special Buffet. This chef is very nice man and a very humble chef. Although he has already climbed to such a high post but he still remains humble. This is the kind of chef that we love to have. We have a very good and fruitful feedback session where we can exchange views and feedbacks professionally and without any ego or ill-feeling. This chef even takes note of our feedback in his personal notepad. Never have Kaya seen before such a humble attitude displayed by high profile chefs. 🙂 Thumbs up!
The 6 degrees per minute revolving restaurant. Do you notice that my view changes? That is such a good dining experience especially if you bring your loved ones. The ambiance is very good and romantic with dim lights and quite environment. 🙂 Makes Kaya think of Butter. 😛
Overall, The Best of Penang Holiday Special Buffet focuses on quality of the food rather than quantity. It does have above average food, judging by hotel standard and quite a number of outstanding dishes which are must tries! With RM75++ per pax, Kaya hopes to see more food choices to give the money more value. Still, Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant & Skybar offers you a one-in-a-kind dining experience with a revolving restaurant, great panoramic view of Georgetown, great atmosphere, great food, friendly staff and good service. Besides that, you can get to enjoy great scenery at the Skybar and you can also bring your coffee, ice cream or desserts to Skybar to end your dinner there while relaxing to the music and views around you. That’s what Three Sixty° Revolving Restaurant & Skybar can offer you that no other restaurant can give you. That’s a money well spent! 🙂

Hi Andy Siti,
I am not sure with their menu. You can request a menu from them for ala-carte orders. Hopefully this helps. Thank you for stopping by my blog. 🙂

Hi,
The menu is almost the same with some minor changes. Kaya went to their buffet again in July 2015 and it is almost the same. So, it is good if you like what you see now. 🙂 Hope this answers your question.
How much is the buffet?
Hi Joanne,
Sorry for late reply. The price of the buffet is RM83 + 6% (RM4.98) = RM88. This is the updated price. I brought my tourists there last month.

Dear Kah Hock,
Very sorry for the late update. Lots of things happened these few months. New job and upgraded to become a daddy. We have just updated your details in the blogpost. Thank you for informing.
Thank you for the positive review! 🙂
Dear Kah Hock,
We enjoyed the buffet a lot. Kaya still enjoys it now as Kaya brings his tourists to the restaurant as Kaya is a freelance tourguide.
