While the whole of Penang is crazy about Penang White Curry Instant Noodles, KayaButter managed to get our hands on Mamee Chef, a latest product from Mamee-Double Decker where they also produce the famous and nostalgic Mamee with the blue monster. πŸ™‚ That’s what KayaButter grows up with and sometimes still eat it! πŸ˜›

We started with Mamee Chef Creamy Tom Yam flavour by because it is very good that KayaButter keep eating it and forget to review it. Anyhow, we are quite impressed with Mamee Chef and bought Mamee Chef Curry Laksa flavor to try. To our disappointment, It is less tastier than Creamy Tom Yam flavor according to our taste buds but it is good compared with others. πŸ™‚

Since the flavor is the only thing different together with the some ingredient, KayaButter will show you the Curry Laksa flavor since that’s what we have now. πŸ™‚ The size of the Mamee Chef is 80 grams. Consider a bit bigger than the usual, hence the higher price.

Here are what you get in the packet of Mamee Chef! Surprisingly, the block of instant noodles is round in shape. That’s cute and a bit special than the usual rectangular shape. The seasoning powder in red packet, the vegetables and dried tofu and the seasoning paste in the transparent packet.

KayaButter think that we don’t have to teach you how to cook right? Kaya being a lazy chef does not put anything extra into the instant noodle. πŸ˜› The dried tofu is quite a lot.

The seasoning and the paste!

The verdict? Slightly better than the curry flavored instant noodles out there. The dried tofu is not so springy and not so nice to chew compared to the ones I have for my Penang curry mee. Well, we can’t compare to those right but Kaya is hoping for at least 50% of the similarity since they are trying to make a better and upscale instant noodles? The soup is nice and not as spicy as the Creamy Tom Yum’s.

One problem that both Penang White Curry Instant Noodles and Mamee Chef face is their noodles. Mamee Chef claim that their instant noodles is made using ‘pull’ technology or what we call ‘La Mien’ technology or in Malay, ‘Mi Tarik’ to create something like ramen. The instant noodles is not Q enough (Q is a Taiwanese term for al-dante or springy-ness) and it just makes the whole eating experience less memorable. Overall, it is a better option compared to other instant noodles out there. KayaButter do not suggest my readers to eat more of instant noodles but it is a good emergency food when your hunger pang strikes you at odd hours.

Oh ya, by the way, Butter added some sugar for the Mamee Chef Creamy Tom Yam flavor and the whole tom yam flavor is enhanced and tastes much better. Do try that and give us feedback ya. πŸ™‚ KayaButter still prefers Mamee Chef Creamy Tom Yum. Creamy and spicy. Nice! πŸ˜‰

KayaButter bought this at estimated RM4.60 during Tesco promotion at 4+1 pack. Kaya read that the usual price is RM5.70. Please correct me if Kaya is wrong cos Kaya already forget the exact price.
