KayaButter believe that many are wondering where is this mural painting of YAB Lim Guan Eng eating Hokkien Mee, after seeing them in Instagrams or Facebook. After some searching and asking around, KayaButter finally found the place. This is not the same as the one in Penang 3D Museum called Made in Penang. That one is YAB Lim Guan Eng having coffee and wearing white shirt. Let KayaButter show you where. 🙂

Ever since Malacca and Georgetown, Penang received the Unesco Heritage City Award (Anugerah Bandar Warisan Unesco) on 7th July 2008, Georgetown, the once ghost city, has been booming with lots of tourism and commerce activities. A lot of things have been changed yet the old and charming architecture of the olden days have been preserved and restored to their former glory.

Many budding entrepreneurs have been taking up the heritage pre-war houses and shoplots and turning them into boutique hotels, motels, hostels, restaurants and musuems, attracting more and more tourists both locals and overseas in large numbers to Georgetown. KayaButter are going to introduce you to a newly opened restaurant. KayaButter went to try another new restaurant in the heart of Georgetown after seeing many posts of this restaurant in Facebook.

The restaurant is called MM Noodles or 面面俱到 in Chinese. Their signature dish is Hokkien Mee (Hokkien language) or 福建麺 in Mandarin which means . It is often confused with other states’ name of this dish. It is known as Hokkien Mee in Penang whereas in other states, it is called Har Mee 蝦麺. Hokkien Mee literally means Prawn noodles. Penang Hokkien Mee consists of yellow noodles and rice noodles with broth made of prawn shells and bones from pork. It also comes with bean sprouts, slices of lean pork, cooked prawns and some deep fried shallots.

If you order Hokkien mee in other states, you will not get the Penang version Hokkien Mee but it will come with stir fried thick yellow noodles with thick dark soy sauce and comes with slices of pork meat, cabbage and crispy fried pork fat.

The shop is very easy to find. If you are coming from Lebuh Pantai, turn left when you see the MCA logo on the corner shoplot. After driving for roughly 20 metres, you will see the shop on your right. Remember to look for parking space as there are very few parking spaces available.

The interior of MM Noodles 面面俱到. A very traditional and antique feeling with modern comfort.

You must bring your parents or grandparent to try this restaurant. The restaurant plays oldies songs and definitely will stir their emotion of the olden days. 🙂 They have many pictures of the old Penang buildings and roads. Your parents or grandparents will definitely love it and they will tell you more about their old times and history of Penang.

The place is cooling and relaxing. It is bright, clean and has songs for you to enjoy albeit the songs are oldies. It can be quite noisy when the place is filled with people. One thing lacking is space as you can see in the photos above. It can only houses about 20 people++ at one time. One more thing to note is that their toilet is at upstairs. Quite a trouble for those elderly who cannot climb stairs.

The food menu of MM Noodles 面面俱到.

Their main dish is hokkien mee. You can order add-ons such as fish ball, crab meat and so on. Besides that, you can also order appetizers such as fried Taiwan sausage, fried lor bak and etc. Their pricing is considered acceptable for such eatery.

RM6.00 for the standard one. Kaya does not like bean sprouts and deep fried shallots. 🙂

The broth is decent. Flavorful and sweet. You can add on chili paste as your liking. The noodles are cooked just nice. The ingredients given are a bit too few given the price that we pay. Overall, the eatery is a good place to chill with your family members or friends, serving decent food and a chance for you to ‘lunch’ or ‘dine’ with our YAB Lim Guan Eng. 😛
