 Suffolk House Restaurant

The Suffolk House Restaurant resides within Suffolk House, a historically important Georgian Mansion, built on the estate of Sir Francis Light, the founder of Penang, in the 19th century. It was known as the first Great House in Penang, and has been painstakingly restored, at great cost, to its former glory.

Suffolk's House October 2013 Menu by Chef Gordon Robertson (1) The elegantly opulent setting, which is much in keeping with the rest of the mansion, is conducive, complementary and perfectly suited to the fine dining which the restaurant offers. You cannot but feel the history that oozes from this building as you dine. The cuisine is basically Continental and pork-free.

There are two main dining areas, differently decorated; both are quiet and elegant, as well as a section where one can dine alfresco, if preferred. There is an a-la-carte menu, but the restaurant offers rather fine lunch & dinner set menus. The restaurant offers a fine selection of wines from both the Old and New Worlds.

In the North Porch, Afternoon Tea is served from 2.30pm to 6.30pm daily. Overlooking the manicured lawn and raintrees one can enjoy Scones with homemade preserves, Chicken Pie and other yummy treats while listening to classical music and birds chirping.

The Patio is a comfortable covered lounge which is open to the environment, where diners can partake of their pre-dinner cocktails and drinks.

 Amuse Bouche
Scallop, Confit Smoked Salmon, Coffee Oil

This starter impresses my eyes! The decoration is simply so cute and refined. Besides, the scallop is of high graded and best quality. The whole thing tastes good with the coffee bean.

Salad
Fresh Leaf with Herbs, Cucumber and Elderflower Jelly

It is just the most refreshing salad I ever had! Must take it together with the toasted bread. However, I personally prefer it to be a little bit less sour.

Soups
Pumpkin and Honey Bisque, Spiced Sour Cream Asparagus, Truffled Mascarpone

You can choose between these two soups of the day. I love the Pumpkin and Honey Bisque, comparing to the Spiced Sour Cream Asparagus! Basically, all the ingredients of Pumpkin and Honey Bisque are blended so well that I finish the whole bowl in no time.

Sorbet
Apple, Lime and Wasabi

I would say the chef is extremely brilliant to mix apple, lime and wasabi in an exact portion. It is very refreshing and I feel like having more after eating. To be honest, it is indeed one of my favorite dish for the night.
