TGV Cinema’s The Ultimate Movie Buff Challenge 2014 @ Gurney Paragon, Penang!!!

Are You The ULTIMATE Movie Buff?

In conjunction with the completion of TGV Cinemas Gurney Paragon & Gurney Paragon’s 1st anniversary, they jointly organised The Ultimate Movie Buff Challenge to reward movie-lovers and loyal patrons of both entities. The Challenge actually begins on 17th July 2014 and ends with a bang with the Ultimate Movie Buff Game Show, the 1st of its kind in Penang and I believe the whole of Malaysia (Please correct me if Kaya is wrong. :-))

To join the Ultimate Movie Buff Challenge, firstly you need to be above 18 years old. Secondly, you need to spend a minimum of RM30 in a single receipt at Gurney Paragon and purchase a movie ticket at TGV Cinemas Gurney Paragon to receive an entry form and a ‘What’s My Prize’ scratch card. Patrons will have to submit their proof of purchase together with the entry form and await the good news! TGV Cinemas received over 600 entry forms and only 15 participants were shortlisted based on completed entry forms and also originality, creativity and relevance of the slogan. They will then participate in the Ultimate Movie Buff Game Show as the finale at Gurney Paragon’s Main Atrium on 18th July 2014.

The stage has been prepped with special attention to the microphones and buzzers.

The humorous and cute MC warming the atmosphere with giving away free TGV Cinemas movie tickets if you manage to answer his questions correctly.

Seated on the VIP seats are: (from right to left) Senior Marketing Manager of TGV Cinemas, Ms. Celeste Koay, CEO of TGV Cinemas, Mr. Gerald Dibbayawan and Executive Director of Hunza Properties Berhad, Ms. Lily Tan Siew Feng. Mr Gerald officiated the event.

Here are the mechanics of the Ultimate Movie Buff Game Show:

  1. The 15 lucky participants will be divided into 3 groups.
  2. The winner from each group will proceed to the Final Round to battle for the Grand Prize.
  3. If you are the fastest to press the buzzer, you will get the chance to answer.
  4. If you answer correctly, you will score 10 points. If you answer incorrectly, you will be deducted 10 points and all other contestants will get extra 10 points.
  5. The questions are divided into 4 categories with its own distinctive style: Poster Poser, a zoomed in version of the movie posters will be shown for the contestants to guess. Seen That Scene, a short clip of the movie will be shown and contestants need to guess the movie. Actor Factor, information of the actor is given and you need to guess the actor/actress or the movie. Quick Fire, a fact about a movie, actor or actress will be asked.

Here are the participants of Round 1.

Here are the participants of Round 2.

Here are the participants of Round 3.

Finally, we have 3 winners who will battle it out in the Final Round. From the left to right, we have Mr Santhanan Venkatasen (winner of Round 3), Ms Linda Onn Lee Choo (winner of Round 2) and Mr Anand Raj Markandu (winner of Round 1).

I can tell you the final round is so intense and got everyone on their feet. And what makes it even more intense is that we have a tie breaker in the end of the Final Round. In the end, Mr Anand comes out as the winner of the Ultimate Movie Buff!

If you wish to check out the questions that they ask during the rounds, do check my other blogger friends who have uploaded the photos in their blog. My Nikon D7000 cannot take the photos properly. Kaya is not sure about the settings to make it good.
