Eastin Hotel Penang December 2014 Buffet Theme – Christmas Eve & New Year Eve!!!
It’s that time again. December is Kaya’s favourite month as Kaya’s birthday falls in this month and Kaya’s favourite celebration also falls in this month which is Christmas! KayaButter were invited by Eastin Hotel Penang to review their Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner. Kaya went alone as Butter is not feeling well and couldm’t join the review. As you are entering Swez Brassiere, you will definitely notice their Christmas decoration which will definitely sparks your Christmas mood! *Kaya thinks that he saw a figure that is quite familiar with the character in Candy Crush Saga, *wink wink** Hahaha 🙂

These are the two chefs responsible for all the delicious and awesome dishes for the Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner.
Cold Cut Platter
The Cold Cut Platter comes with seafood terrine jelly, smoked duck with fruit mousse, smoked chicken, peach and bell pepper. The smoked duck stood out with its excellent taste and best taken with the fruits. Another reason is that the duck meat does not have strong duck smell. 🙂 It is also the 1st time Kaya tasted terrine jelly. Mixed feeling as Kaya is not a big fan of jelly except Konyaku jellies. 🙂 The smoked chicken has strong smoky flavour and is tender and juicy at the same time. Nice one! 🙂

Baked Mussels Thermidor Style
Kaya was served with the three dishes above in one plate. I must say that Pan Fried Cod Fish Fillet with Mango Salsa is my favourite and also a few other bloggers there. I guess the lightness of the fish and the sweet & sourish taste of the mango salsa win our hearts. The cod fish is smooth and buttery. So nice to chew! The Roasted Lamb Leg with Onion Sauce is a decent dish and does not have the strong gamy flavour. It a bit too chewy to my liking. Kaya is so happy to see the Baked Mussels Thermidor Style is served without the shell. No need to do extra work to remove the mussel from its shell. Yay! The sauce of the mussels is thick and vitalising. It makes you feel fresh and alert after tasting it. The mussel is a bit too chewy according to my taste.
Turkey Lasagna
Traditional Roasted Turkey
Kaya is a big fan of lasagna. Who can resist the smoothness and cheesiness of lasagna? That’s what this Turkey Lasagna did to me. Best of all? The lasagna melts in your mouth as you put it in! 😉 What is Christmas buffet dinner if it doesn’t come with turkey, right? The turkey goes very well with its cranberry sauce although it is a bit dry to my preference. 🙂
Cheese Cake
Kaya loves this cheese cake. It is so soft and succulent and refreshing with its strawberry flavour. Kaya seems to be addicted to strawberry cheesecake. Hehe.
Charlotte Royale
This is a dessert named after Queen Charlotte who is the wife of King George III. It is a pudding that is covered with either sponge fingers or bread slice that serves as mould to the pudding. A rather interesting dessert. If you wish to read more about its history, click here. The Charlotte Royale is quite soft and fluffy.
Christmas Log Cake
A must-have in Christmas buffet dinners as it helps to create the Christmas mood. It is sweet and has a strong chocolate taste. Thumbs-up! 🙂
