The Famous Yam Rice & Salted Vegetable Soup with Pork Organs @ Kafe Sentosa Corner, Bukit Mertajam!

*Photos are taken with Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Pardon Kaya for the photo quality.*

Kaya has wanted to post this for the longest time. Kaya has been eating this delicous and lip-smacking dish for more than 6 to 7 years ever since Kaya went to work at BM in 2006 until 2007. Everytime, KayaButter took photos but never get to post it in the blog. Finally, Kaya managed to get this famous eatery posted in our blog. Yay!

Kafe Sentosa Corner is a bit messy with the tables scattered around without any proper placement and adjusted according to each person’s needs. So, don’t expect much from this coffee shop. During lunch time or weekends, the place can be very packed and you will sit very close to each other. 🙂 The price to pay for good food! Yeah! Click ‘Continue reading’ for more details.

The famous BM (stands for Bukit Mertajam) Yam Rice with Salted Vegetable Soup with Pork Organs or some will call it as Yam Rice with Preserved Salted Vegetable Soup (or what we Penangnites Hokkien will call it as kiam chye th’ng). The rice is cooked together with yam, soy sauce and other spices to make this rice very fragrant and yummy. You can have the option for white rice but many will choose yam rice because of the extra ingredients.

Yam Rice & Salted Vegetable Soup with Meatballs & Meat Slices RM5.00.

The Famous Yam Rice & Salted Vegetable Soup with Pork Organs @ Kafe Sentosa Corner, Bukit Mertajam (5)Remember to eat with this dark soy sauce with chili paste. Makes the whole experience much better. 🙂 But for those who cannot take spicy, avoid this or just touch and go with your pork stuffs. The spiciness slowly builds up. So beware! 🙂

Then, you will have the preserved salted vegetable soup with pork organs such as pork intestines, stomach, congealed pig blood, liver and meat slices. They also sell stew dark soya sauce pork trotter, stew tofu and stew eggs. You can customize your order based on your preference. You also need to state how many people are eating this dish and they will prepare accordingly. Usually, Kaya will order a person’s set and without pork intestines as KayaButter are not fan of internal organs. 🙂

The chicken rice stall. Too bad Kaya went there for Yam Rice only but wait for us to dig out the photos to show. 🙂

This Kafe Sentosa Corner is famous not only for the Yam Rice & Salted Vegetable Soup but many other hawker food also and a bakery stall. Butter always come here her favorite chicken rice. This is arguably the best chicken rice based on Butter’s preference. Kaya also agrees to her statement. They give generous amount of chicken meat. KayaButter usually order breast meat for the ease of eating and more meat. And remember to order extra soy sauce. Their soy sauce is a bit saltier than the ones we had at other stalls but tasted awesome. KayaButter can’t find other soy sauce that tastes like this anywhere else. Butter says this soy sauce reminds her of the childhood times when she tasted this soy sauce in her grandma’s cooking. Nice! 🙂 The chili is also nice and gives an extra kick when taken together with the chicken, rice and soy sauce. Best combo! 🙂

Usually, KayaButter will share the chicken rice with one extra big rice. And Kaya will continue with his favorite yam rice dish. That’s how we satisfies our craving and squeezing the extra value from the RM5.60 bridge toll. 😛

After the hearty meal, KayaButter usually will order some Portuguese egg tarts to bring home for our family members. The Portuguese tarts are nice. Crunchy and sweet but soft inside. Awesome combination. KayaButter wish to remind you all that the Portuguese egg tarts are best consumed when it is hot which is within 30 minutes++. That’s Kaya’s raw guess but should be correct. If left cold, the taste will not be that good. We have tried that a few times already and grown wiser. 😛 Besides that, this bakery stall sells good Seremban char siew pao (roasted pork bun). It is good. The business is very good and at times you need to wait for your order. You can actually order first and take it later. Just mention to the lady boss and bring your receipt. 🙂

This is a famous bakery stall in Bukit Mertajam, Even got featured in local newspaper.

Remember to visit this coffee shop when you are around in Bukit Mertajam. Do avoid the lunch time crowd as it will be very hard to find seats and you have to wait quite long for your yam rice dish.

Direction to this yummy dish. Drive all the way Song Ban Kheng towards Bukit Mertajam, going up the flyover and you will see abandoned Mayang Mall on your right. Go straight some more and you will see shoplots on your left and right. Go straight again until you reach a traffic light. Go straight and start to look for parking. Parking can be found near a small field on your right after driving past the coffee shop.

Hi Xueen, thanks for visiting our blog. Yeah. It is quite hard to find a place to seat due to the large crowd. Try to go earlier say 12pm++ or later at 2pm++. The crowd should be lesser. 🙂

[…] The salty vegetable soup is good. Salty and sour. Comparing with Yam Rice at Sentosa Cafe, Bukit Mertajam, the soup lack a certain kick of saltiness and sourness. Kaya still prefers the salted vegetable soup at Bukit Mertajam. […]

[…] Overall, this is a chicken rice stall that KayaButter will think of when we are hunting for food. This is one of the best chicken rice in Penang but in our humble opinion, there is another chicken rice stall that is THE BEST one in Penang! KayaButter partially wrote about this chicken rice in our blogpost about the famous Jalan Kulim Yam Rice. […]
